A rich collection of poetic metaphors on emancipation, the absolute necessity of forging one’s own identity, and knowing how to leave and set sail in order to grow.
A true gem! *Chiffonnade* is one of those shows that, long after its premiere, continues to captivate through its theme (the transition from childhood to adulthood), its visual poetry (a soft, cocoon-like sphere resembling a seashell), its musical score (jazz rhythms infused with African tones), and its delicate movement.

Choreographer Michèle Dhallu (of the Carré Blanc company) breathes new life into *Chiffonnade*—a signature piece of her repertoire—weaving a tapestry of poetic metaphors about emancipation and the vital need to forge one’s own identity, to know when to leave and set out into the unknown in order to grow. It is a work of great elegance and exquisite delicacy, borrowing the fabric’s enveloping softness as—on stage—an arm, a head, and a body gradually emerge from a dress that acts as a womb.

A dancer sheds her garments amidst a shower of light, like a living chrysalis! Whether touched, crumpled, folded, rippling like waves, or layered like pastry, the fabrics both conceal and reveal a profound state shared by all human beings. Balancing fragility, curiosity, and a longing for the unknown, this choreographic solo—at once sensitive and spellbinding—grips us from the very first moments and holds us fast, inviting us to move beyond our fears and "explore the world beyond."
