Saint-Tropez
Thursday 24 September 2026 to 18h
A lecture open to the general public whose goal is, in all modesty, to draw connections between various human activities carried out in the seas and oceans.
For example: freediving, scuba diving, spearfishing… recreational fishing, including sport fishing… professional and commercial fishing. A four-part lecture with a brief discussion, illustrated with excerpts from reports I’ve produced in various contexts:1/ An overview of shark attacks on humans
2/ Freediving encounters with exceptional species: orcas in New Zealand, tiger sharks in South Africa, giant bluefin tuna in the North Atlantic
3/ Sport fishing for yellowfin and albacore tuna in South Africa, and giant bluefin tuna off the North American Atlantic coast
4/ Commercial spearfishing for swordfish off the North American Atlantic coast, bluefin tuna fishing using trap nets in Morocco, and bluefin tuna fishing using electric spears off the Canadian Atlantic coast
