The Orchestre de Chambre de Toulon et du Var was founded in 1987 by bassist Patrice SERRUS. Artistic director for over fifteen years has been Manuel CARTIGNY. A professional ensemble of 15 string players, the musicians are also joined by a pianist, winds, percussion, etc., depending on program requirements.
For over 35 years, one of the OCTV's main missions has been to offer classical concerts in the communes of the Var. The orchestra's aim is to promote classical music in all its forms, and its variable line-up means that its programs are always of the highest quality.
The orchestra participates in the training and professionalization of young singers and instrumentalists graduating from the Toulon, Aix and Marseille regional conservatories. The orchestra also regularly performs awareness-raising concerts for underprivileged audiences. Finally, for several years now, the OCTV has been introducing the very young to the magic of music by regularly performing in Toulon's nursery and elementary schools.
