"Fantasies and variations on a journey through Europe" Philippe Lefebvre discovered the organ at the age of 15 on the podium of Notre-Dame de Paris, where he met Pierre Cochereau.
Organist at Arras Cathedral at the age of 19 and winner of the Fondation de la vocation prize, in 1973 he won the improvisation grand prize at the Chartres international competition and became organist at this prestigious cathedral. Appointed organist of Notre-Dame de Paris in 1985 with Olivier Latry and Jean-Pierre Leguay, he has given concerts and masterclasses all over the world and made numerous recordings. Director of the Lille Conservatoire from 1980 to 2003, director of the Notre-Dame de Paris choir school and then director of services at the cathedral, he taught improvisation at the Paris Conservatoire until 2014. He is a qualified member of the Ministry of Culture commissions responsible for organ restoration and construction, and a member of the Commission Supérieure des Monuments Historiques. Philippe Lefebvre chairs the association des grandes orgues de Chartres and the national association Orgue en France.
Les Soirées Musicales de Grimaud are honoured to welcome to the gallery of the Quoirin organs in the Church of Saint-Michel, this exceptional personality who is one of the most representative performers and improvisers of French art.
