Francesco Gallo, as a tribute to and sign of respect for his origins, chose to call himself INIS, an acronym meaning “Io Nato Ievoli Sono” (I was born in Ievoli, Italy).

For as long as he can remember, he has always wanted to be an artist.
Born in 1955 in a small Calabrian village called Ievoli, situated at the foot of a mountain between two seas, INIS comes from a family of farmers. Drawing and painting were already part of his life. He created art on scraps of cardboard using brushes he made himself from animal hair. He painted when he was alone, out of sight, in the mountains, during the long hours spent tending his goats.

At age 15, he left for Naples to enroll in art school.
At age 20, he arrived in France and settled in Maurienne (Savoie), where he devoted himself body and soul to his art in order to make a living from it…
As he so aptly puts it, “Painting takes a lifetime… you start one day, but you never finish…”
The artist has managed to move beyond his early work to develop a universal style that reflects the values he continues to believe in and intends to share.

His lively, colorful market scenes are an invitation to travel; his harvest scenes pay homage to the rural world, with the Bauges Massif serving as his source of inspiration. His paintings delight the senses with a riot of warm colors, reflecting an artist who is human, passionate, and true to his roots.

An artist whose reputation continues to grow, INIS exhibits in major French and international galleries.
