Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer
Thursday 13 August 2026 to 20h45
(Cancelled in case of bad weather)
This event honors the special forces who operated with the utmost stealth during the night of August 14–15, 1944—just a few hours before the Allied troops landed on the Provençal coast.
This is a walking route, approximately 500 meters long, from the chapel to Canadel Beach. The walk, which will begin before nightfall, aims to highlight the courage and sacrifice of these units, some of which have been largely forgotten. Their mission was to prepare the way by neutralizing German outposts, thereby enabling Allied soldiers to land safely on D-Day. A presentation on these units will be given during this nighttime walk, and their exploits will be recounted. This tour is intended for military history enthusiasts who already have some basic knowledge of World War II.
Practical Information & Guidelines: In case of inclement weather, the tour will be canceled.
Each visitor must bring a light to illuminate their path: a flashlight or the “flashlight” feature on their smartphone. Participants must also wear closed-toe shoes suitable for the route, such as sneakers or athletic shoes. It is strongly recommended to wear long-sleeved and long-legged clothing or to apply insect repellent.
The tour route is intended for people who are not mobility-impaired and who can remain standing for extended periods.
