Dance: Double Murder

Back list
Watch out, this is an event! After a postponed reception in March, Hofesh Shechter, exceptional choreographer and international star of dance, arrives at the Carré. The London Company will present its brand new creation. A monumental work for 10 dancers involving with power and intensity the violence of our society confronted with our intimate aspiration to tenderness and hope.

Half-choreographer, half-rockstar, trained at the Batsheva Dance Company in Tel Aviv, Hofesh Shechter is today an emblematic figure of contemporary dance. The emotion at the top of the skin is a signature of the choreographer who seeks again and again to unravel the mysteries and contradictions of the human mind. His new project is articulated in two contrasting pieces, united by the style of a tribal movement, magnetic and contagious.
Interpreted by ten dancers and carried by an epic musical composition signed by Hofesh himself, Double Murder explores our deepest emotions.

Originally created for the Nederlands In Theater, Clowns opens the program, making a sarcastic observation of the indifference that has gradually emerged with regard to violence in our societies. Ten red clowns in a choreographic whirl question how far we are prepared to go in the name of entertainment.

As an antidote, Shechter’s new creation, The Fix, radiates a tender and fragile energy to the stage. It offers a moment of respite from the forces of aggression and violence that oppress us daily. A shield to protect us from the noise of life outside and allow us to deploy our fragility, nourishing confidence in human qualities.

Violence, tenderness and hope are exposed through Shechter’s cinematic gaze revealing a haunting beauty.
